1499214 Coated foamed plastics article containing pullulan HAYASHIBARA BIOCHEMICAL LABORATORIES INC and SUMITOMO CHEMICAL CO Ltd 15 May 1975 [18 May 1974] 20681/75 Heading B2E A foamed plastics material comprises a foamed article containing pullulan of formula which is coated with at least one layer of a hydrophobic resin, e.g. a thermoplastic resin such as polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene, acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer, polymethyl methacrylate, polyvinyl acetate, polyvinyl chloride, polyvinylidene chloride, vinyl acetate/vinyl chloride copolymer, olefinevinyl acetate copolymer, polycarbonates, polyamides, polyacetals, polysulphones or polyesters and/or a thermosetting resin such as a polyurethane, an unsaturated polyester or an epoxy resin. Pullulan or a partially modified pullulan may be used, e.g. etherified, esterified, phosphatised or oxidised or a graft copolymer of pullulan with styrene or vinyl chloride. Coating may be by dipping or spraying. Foaming may be initiated before or after coating. The substrate may be a foamed resin containing pullulan or pullulan itself may be foamed.
