Abstract

1498814 Turbine power-plant ROLLSROYCE Ltd 31 July 1975 [10 Aug 1974] 35338/74 Headings F1G and F1Q A power-plant includes a fluidized bed combustion chamber 14 having first and second heat exchange paths 16, 24 in which the working fluids of gas and steam turbine plants are respectively heated. As shown, air from compressor 10 is heated as it passes through path 16 of bed 14 on its way to a turbine 18 driving the compressor. The air leaving turbine 18 flows to bed 14 to support combustion of fuel, e.g. coal or residual oil. The combustion products pass to a separate power turbine 20, driving electric generator 22 and thence exhaust via economizer 40. Feedwater is preheated in the latter prior to passing through path 24 of bed 14 in which steam is produced to drive a further turbine powering an electric generator. A by-pass valve 32 may be opened at part-load operation. In a modification Fig. 1 (not shown) combustion air is supplied to bed 14 from power turbine 20 rather than directly from turbine 18. Compressor 10 may be provided with intercoolers. An auxiliary combustion chamber may be disposed in the air inlet line to turbine 18 for starting purposes.
