Abstract

1498362 Labelling CARL SCHENCK AG 4 Feb 1976 [21 Feb 1975] 04410/76 Heading B8F Apparatus for marking a rotatable object, e.g. a tyre being tested for balance, comprises a frame 1 supported by and running on the object, a supply of coloured self-adhesive tape 3 on the frame, and means for transferring pieces of tape on to the object. In the Figure, the frame is supported on the tyre, rotating in the direction of arrow 10, through wheels 13a, 13b, and is held on by gravity, though if the tyre is not horizontal the frame may be held on by springs. A punch 6 is operable by pneumatic cylinder 12 to serve a portion of tape 3 against cutting plate 5, which may have a conical bore or a bore of stepped increase in diameter, and to press the portion on to the object. Alternatively, the tape piece may be shot through the bore by punch 6 as a projectile, to impinge on the object. In either case, the tape piece is rolled down by wheel 13b. The tyre may be marked where the maximum of the first harmonic of the imbalance force occurs, and two marking devices may be provided, to apply no, one, or two marks in accordance with the degree of imbalance, or marks of different shapes may be applied.
