Abstract
933,289. Measuring radial play in bearings. SVENSKA KALLAGERFABRIKEN A.B. April 4, 1961 [Aug. 23, 1960], No. 12014/61. Class 106 (2). Apparatus for measuring the radial play in rolling bearings comprises a mandrel 2 on which bearing 1 is mounted with its inner race 3 held between a sleeve 4 and a pressure plate 5. The outer race 7 is rotated by frictional engagement between the side face of race 7 and an O ring 12 on a disc 8 driven by a belt 10. A load is applied successively to diametrically opposite sides of the bearing 1 by pairs of rollers 13, 14 on pneumatically operated pistons 15, 16. A pneumatic gauging nozzle 17 on arm 18 of a U bar 19 having a finger 21 contacting the inner race 3 detects movement of the outer race 7 to measure radial play. The rate of rotation of race 7 is chosen in relation to the inertia of gauge 17 so that imperfections in the shape of the outer race 7 do not affect the result. The race is released after gauging by retraction of pressure plate 5. A trough may be provided to supply the bearings to the gauging unit and a casing may be provided to displace the bearings from the trough after gauging. The apparatus may be adapted to sort bearings according to size.
