1497169 Sealing can lids G B KLEIN 10 Sept 1975 37168/75 Heading B8D In a can lid L with a push-in gate panel 20 underlying an aperture 21 and separated from the lid by a spacer strip 22 formed by enlarging and underfolding a portion of lid L, a settable wax-like sealer-filler 30 is applied in fluid form as a fillet 32 about aperture 21 and enters between the strip 22 and panel 20 as a capillary layer before entering a lanced opening 25 in a score line 23 surrounding the panel. A plug 31 is formed by the filler in opening 25. The filler may be a blend of paraffin waxes, or a polymeric sealant with the general characteristics of an ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer which is applied as a heated liquid which later sets.
