Abstract

1496299 Container closures OWENSILLINOIS Inc 22 March 1976 11433/76 Heading B8T A closure for a container 21 having an outwardly directed annular rim 22 at its mouth, comprises a central panel 12 surrounded by and attached to an upwardly extending peripheral wall 13, an annular member 14 extending outwardly from the wall 13 and spaced from the junction between panel 12 and wall 13, and a peripheral skirt 15 attached to and extending downwardly from the member 14 at a location spaced from the wall 13, the peripheral skirt 15 having laterally inwardly projecting means, e.g. lugs 16, to engage the rim 22 of the container, and the peripheral wall 13 having a series of circumferentially spaced radially outwardly projecting lugs 17 which in use contact the inner surface of the container. The lugs 17 preferably have a lower portion 17a which slopes outwardly from the junction between panel 12 and wall 13, and an upper portion 17b which extends axially to provide a friction surface contacting the container wall. The closure is preferably thermoformed from sheet thermoplastic material in a female mould.
