Abstract

1496135 Disc brake pad assemblies; preventing squeal DON INTERNATIONAL Ltd 3 Feb 1975 [2 April 1974] 14473/74 Heading F2E A disc brake pad assembly for actuation by an annular hydraulic piston 11 comprises friction material moulded on to a metal support plate 10, the metal support plate 10 having one or two annular or part-annular relief holes 12 passing therethrough filled with friction material for disposition in the path of the piston 11 whereby to relieve the metal plate 10 from receiving directly part or all of the force of the piston 11. The arrangement is said to reduce brake squeal. Preferably the or each relief hole 12 has an arc of between 105 and 360 degrees. The metal support plate 10 may be formed with additional keying holes disposed laterally of the path of the piston.
