Abstract

1310843 Friction pad assemblies for spot type disc brakes AISIN SEIKI KK 3 Sept 1970 [3 Sept 1969] 42152/70 Heading F2F A friction pad assembly for a spot type disc brake actuable by an hydraulic piston member 5 comprises a friction pad 1 mounted on a metal backing plate 2 the rigidity of the "run-in" portion 2a of the assembly with respect to the rotational direction "A" of the disc 3 being lower than that of the "run-out" portion 2b thereof. As shown in Fig. 1 (B) this is achieved by providing a depression 4 in the back surface of the metal backing plate 2 in the "run-in" portion 2a of the assembly, a plate member 6 being attached to the back surface. In the embodiment of, Fig. 2 (not shown), the "run-in" portion 2a of metal backing plate 2 is made of softer metal than the "run-out" portion. In the embodiment of, Fig. 3 (not shown), the "run-in" portion of the metal backing plate has cavities (10) and in Fig. 4 (not shown), a groove (11) in the "run-in" portion of the backing plate is filled with soft material (12). In the embodiment of Fig. 5 (not shown), a crosswise opening (13) in the "run-in" portion of the backing plate 2 is filled with lining material of the pad 1. Fig. 6 (not shown), illustrates an arrangement wherein a resilient member (14) is interposed between the pad 1 and the backing plate 2 on the "run-in" side thereof, and, Fig. 7 (not shown), illustrates an arrangement wherein the thickness of the "run-in" portion of the backing plate 2 is less than that of the "run-out" portion. In Fig. 8 (not shown), holes (15) are formed in the friction pad 1 on the run-in side. The above described arrangements are said to reduce brake noise.
