Abstract
1493501 Cable terminations LES CABLES DE LYON 14 Feb 1975 [19 Feb 1974] 6490/75 Heading H2E A cable 1 comprising at least one conductor 2 insulated by a mineral material 4 from a metallic sheath 3 has a fire-proof end portion 6 which comprises a transparent resilient tube 7 fitted over sheath 3, a fire resistant insulating spacer 8 having apertures 9 for the conductors to pass through, a fluid-tight insulating compound 5 packed between the spacer 8 and the end of the mineral insulator 4 and fluid-tight insulating casings 10 fitted on the free ends of the conductors and abutting the spaces 8. The spacer 8 is preferably of a refractory mineral oxide, tube 7 is preferably polyethylene, and material 5 is preferably a mixture of silicone rubber and non-polymerized butyl rubber. Casings 10 comprise two coaxial glass braids (Fig. 3, not shown) impregnated with or overlaid with silicone rubber. In the event of fire, the tube 7 deteriorates but compound 5, spacer 8 and casings 10 retain their insulating properties and prevent a short-circuit.
