Abstract
1493175 Corrguated-plate heat exchangers KERNFORSCHUNGANLAGE JULICH GmbH 20 March 1975 [30 April 1974] 11751/75 Heading F4S In a heat exchanger consisting of at least one pair of heat exchange matrices with each matric comprising a corrugated plate 1 separating two fluids (e.g. gases at differing pressure) flowing one on each side of the plate along the corrugations, means closing, for both fluids, the ends of the corrugations, and cover plates extending over the corrugations on each side of the plate to confine fluid flow to the corrugations, the said cover plates are formed to provide for each fluid a plurality of inlet and outlet duets to and from the corrugations, said ducts alternating in the direction along the length of the corrugations, each inlet duct on one side of the plate being positioned opposite an outlet duct on the other side of the plate. In Fig. 1, showing one form of the matrix, the corrugation ends are closed by plates 5 and the inlets 7 and outlets 8 for each fluid are defined by recesses in the cover plates 2, 3. The closure plates 5 may be resiliently pressed against the corrugation (Fig. 2, not shown) ends wherein also the inlet and outlet ducts 7, 8 are provided by grooves in relatively thick cover plates. Fig. 5 shows a heat exchanger unit 13 a plurality of which are arranged in a cylindrical casing (12, Fig. 4). The unit comprises a faceto-face pair of the corrugated plates 1 with their ends supported by a pair of headers 14, 15 these providing the end closures of the corrugations and serving also to supply one of the fluids said fluid being subsequently discharged through a duct 21 defined as shown by elements 17. Spacing means 16 between adjacent units 13 provide also the inlet and outlet means for the other fluid, all as shown by the arrows in Fig. 5. Adjacent units may be either parallel to one another (Fig. 4) or radially arranged in the casing (12). Individual units are removable from the casing. Provisions (e.g. slits 18, Fig. 3) only briefly described, are made to accomodate relative expansion of the unit components.
