Abstract
1492548 Measuring specific surface of pulverized materials VYZKUMNY USTAV STAVEBNICH HMOT 23 Dec 1974 [22 Dec 1973] 55410/74 Heading G1N Apparatus for measuring the specific surface P of a pulverized material comprises a sensor 6 for producing a signal of which the duration is representative of the time interval t required for the passage of a predetermined volume of air through a sample bed of the material, means 4 for measuring the temperature T of the sample bed, and a circuit for producing an output signal in accordance with the equation: where k 1 , k 2 , k 3 are constants and Q, V and γ are the mass, volume and specific gravity of the sample, the circuit comprising means such as potentiometers 2, 3 for setting the values of k 1 and γ, a pulse generator 5, and a circuit 7 for gating the pulses from generator 5, the frequency of the pulse generator 5 and the length of time during which the gating circuit 7 is open and the pulse generator is in oscillation being controlled such that the number of pulses produced at the output of the gating circuit is proportional to P or P<SP>2</SP>. The means 4, sensor 6 and potentiometers 2, 3 are connected to a circuit 1 which controls the frequency of generator 5. If the output of gate 7 represents P<SP>2</SP>, P may be derived by a square root device 8. Unit 9 may be used to calculate the mean of two consecutive values. Units 11, 12 and 13 are a store, a digital display and a digital to analogue converter respectively.
