Abstract
1491865 Apparatus for measuring viscosity BEN CAPPER Ltd 21 Nov 1974 [22 Nov 1973] 54265/73 Heading G1N Apparatus for the measurement of the viscosity of a liquid comprises a viscometer tube A, coils G and H arranged around the tube in spaced relationship, each coil forming part of a circuit having oscillators producing a beat frequency signal the frequency of which changes on alteration of the inductance of the coil and means for detecting and indicating the frequency change G<SP>2</SP>, H<SP>2</SP>, whereby passage of a body, e.g. a stainless steel ball E, through said coils causes a change in inductance thereof and consequent alteration of beat frequency, which is detected and indicated by said means. A timing device J may be actuated by G<SP>2</SP> and stopped by H<SP>2</SP>, or it may be actuated manually on change of an audible signal from a loudspeaker forming part of the circuit. The change in frequency may be arranged to produce a change in amplitude, which may be recorded on a pen recorder. In operation, the tube A is mounted in a thermostatic bath B. It has a guide funnel D through which the ball E is inserted to sink through the liquid under test within the tube. As the ball passes the coils it operates the means mentioned above to give a measure of viscosity.
