Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable the highly accurate measurement to be performed without relation to the size of the wire and the moving speed thereof by measuring the vibration in the direction which is at a right angle with the running direction of the wire, and measuring the tension based on the measured result. CONSTITUTION:At the approximately central part between rolls 11 and 12, is arranged a displacement sensor 13 along the moving path of the wire 10 so that the change of the position caused by the vertical vibration can be sensed. The output signal from the position sensor 13 is incorporated into a microcomputer 14 via a suitable interface in time series. Fourier transformation is performed to calculate the frequency component of the vibration of the wire 10, in accordance with an operating program which is preliminary given by the microcomputer 14. Thus, the fundamental frequency of the vibration is obtained, the tension T is obtained from the outer diameter information obtained by the outer diameter measuring meter, and the tension is displayed by a display 15.
