Abstract
1490999 Resilient bushes CHRYSLER UNITED KINGDOM Ltd 22 Sept 1973 [18 Oct 1974] 45247/74 Heading F2S A resilient bush comprises an annular rubber block 10 sandwiched between and bonded to outer and inner rigid sleeves 11, 12, and a plurality of elements located in the block such that the rubber of the block is held in compression at least in regions encircling the elements. In the Fig. 1 embodiment elements in the form of hollow sleeves 13 extending axially of the block are located in pre-moulded holes 14 at spaced points on a circle concentric with the axis of the block. The block may be moulded with holes 14 into which sleeves 13 of larger diameter are force fitted, or alternatively sleeves 13 of the same diameter may be fitted into the pre-moulded holes 14 and then subsequently expanded. The Fig. 3 embodiment is modified in that each hole 14 tapers from its ends towards the centre, two frusto-conical sleeves 15 with closed ends 16 being inserted into the hole from opposite ends and joined at their ends 16 by a rivet. The frustoconical sleeves 15 may alternatively be forced into holes of uniform diameter so that the compression of the rubber of the block is greater at the end faces than at the centre of the block. The sleeves 13 or 15 may be bonded to the block, e.g. by cold vulcanizing or adhesive, and the rubber of the block may be natural or synthetic.
