Abstract
1490539 Riveting VYSKUMNY USTAV MECHANIZACIE A AUTOMATIZACIE 20 Nov 1974 [23 Nov 1973] 50337/74 Heading B3U A workpiece, e.g. rivet head, is shaped by a cylindrical tool 62, Fig. 7, which performs a compound oscillating and rotary motion. The oscillating motion takes place in a plane passing through the axis 96 of the rivet and can be of variable amplitude. By rotating the plane about the axis 96, the rotary motion is obtained. The resulting curved path of the point of contact between the tool and rivet head can have a constant amplitude (the path in thin line, Fig. 1) or a varying amplitude (in thick line). One apparatus, Fig. 9, for driving the tool 62 includes a tool holder 57 carried in a bar 54. The bar is guided by rollers 52 in the curved track 50 of a holder 49, the holder being rotatable by a shaft 22. The bar is coupled by transverse pins 56, 89 to two slides 27 and 43 arranged eccentrically relative to the tool axis 99. The slides engage with diametral tracks 27, 43 in concentric rotors 24 and 45 and also engage with eccentric grooves 70, 71 in a central rotor 69 (which is rotatable by a further shaft 21). The tracks and grooves constrain the slides to move in paths determined by the relative drving speeds of the shafts, and thereby control the oscillating and rotary movement of the tool. The tool may have a flat working surface to operate on a convex rivet head, or may itself be of convex shape.
