Abstract

1490060 2 - (3 - Substituted - 4H - 1,2,4- triazol - 4 - yl)benzophenones UPJOHN CO 19 Dec 1975 [20 Jan 1975] 52262/76 Divided out of 1489979 Addition to 1454684 Heading C2C The invention comprises a process for preparing compounds of the general Formula IV wherein R 1 and R 2 are independently H or C 1-3 alkyl; R 3 is H, Cl or F; R 4 is H or F provided that when R 4 is F R 3 is not Cl; R 5 is H, F, Cl, Br, CF 3 or NO 2 and n is 0 or 1 by heating a compound of Formula IIIA and/or a compound of Formula IIIB with an unsubstituted or halogen substituted C 1-4 carboxylic acid at a temperature in the range 80-120‹ C. and also comprises per se compounds of Formula IVA in which R<SP>1</SP> 1 and R<SP>1</SP> 2 are independently H or CH 3 ; R 3 and R 4 are as defined above and R<SP>1</SP> 5 is H, Cl or F. Intermediates of Formula IIIA are prepared by reacting equimolar quantities of a compound of Formula I and a compound of Formula II wherein Y is Cl or Br while intermediates of Formula IIIB are prepared by reacting the compound of Formula I with a one molar excess of the compound of Formula II.
