Abstract

1489953 Snuffler leak detectors LEYBOLDHERAEUS-VERWALTUNG GmbH 13 Aug 1975 [28 Aug 1974] 33806/75 Heading G1S A test gas leak 9 from a container 8 is detected by a snuffler 7 connected to a chamber 4 subjected to a vacuum of 10-100 torrs by a pump 6. A mass spectrometer 2 is preceded by a constriction 3 which may be an orifice plate, a gas permeable diaphragm, a porous body or a nozzle. An optical or acoustic signalling device (not shown) may be provided at the snuffler inlet being operated when test gas appears in the spectrometer 2. If the spectrometer already has a vacuum pump including a backing pump then the chamber 4 may be connected to this backing pump. Suitable gases are helium, argon, fluorinated chlorohydrocarbons.
