Abstract
1489648 Coal drying and coke quenching plant BABCOCK-BSH AG 1 April 1975 [1 April 1974 11 Nov 1974] 13297/75 Heading C5E In a coking plant in which coal is continuously dried and preheated by utilizing the sensible heat of the hot coke, the drying gas circuit includes means for extracting water vapour absorbed by the gas during drying of the coal, these means including condensers situated in the gas circuit downstream of the coal drying and preheating apparatus and before the reheating apparatus. The plant may have separate circuits for the coke quenching gas and the drying gas, the drying gas circuit including the secondary side of a heat exchanger which, on the primary side, is a part of the quenching gas circuit (Fig. 1, not shown). In this embodiment, the plant may include a hot gas generator leading to the primary side of the heat exchanger for use when starting up the plant when no hot quenching gas is available, or to supplement the hot quenching gas (Fig. 3, not shown). In a second embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown), the drying gas and quenching gas are combined in a single circuit which includes an after burner combustion chamber through which the hot gas from the quenching chamber is conducted before contacting the coal. This ensures that any water gas generated by contact of the gas with the hot coke is combusted and no enrichment of the circulating gas occurs. In both the embodiments described, separate dryer and preheater stages are provided, connected in counterflow series arrangement, and the drying gas circuit contains a line connected parallel to the preheater and feeding directly to the dryer an additional portion of gas which has not first passed through the preheater.
