927,680. Burning refuse. LICENTIA PATENT - VERWALTUNGS - G.m.b.H. Aug. 4, 1961 [Aug. 10, 1960], No. 28407/61. Class 51 (1). [Also in Group XIII] In a steam generator fired with a low-grade fuel such as refuse and supplying superheated steam to a turbine driving an electric generator the evaporating surfaces comprise radiantly heated tubes lining a combustion chamber whilst the superheater, and reheater where reheating is used, is located in a separate chamber fired with coal, gas or oil, combustion gases from the steam heating chamber passing into the said combustion chamber to promote therein combustion of the low-grade fuel. In the form shown the low-grade fuel is fed to a reverse feed grate disposed below a combustion chamber 2 lined with steam generating tubes. The hot gases discharge from the chamber through a lateral pass and a down pass respectively locating a primary superheater 3 and a feedwater preheater 4 and two-stage air preheaters 5. A separate combustion chamber 6 fired by coal, gas or oil contains a superheater, and reheater where reheating is used, a high excess of air being introduced so that the combustion gases discharging from the chamber 6 over the grate provide secondary air for the gases formed thereon, the flow of gases also serving to dry and to ensure reliable ignition of the low-grade fuel on the grate.
