Abstract

798,785. Steam superheaters. COMBUSTION ENGINEERING, Inc. March 23, 1955 [May 13, 1954], No. 8468/55. Class 123(3) A vapour generator has a gas pass through which hot combustion gases are conveyed and within which are disposed serpentine tubes in parallel spaced planes and in side by side relation, the vapourcontaining tubes being connected to one or other of the outlet headers interconnected for fluid flow therebetween, substantially half of the tubes being connected to one header and half connected to the other header and the tubes connected to a different one of the headers being generally uniformly interrelated, so that the temperature of the vapour in both headers is the same. As shown, a steam generator 10, adapted to supply superheated steam to two inlets of a turbine 12, comprises a furnace 14 lined with steam generating tubes 16 and heated with fuel by means of burners 18. The tubes are connected to drums 24, 28 which are connected by a downcomer 26 with a circulating pump 30. The drum 24 is connected by a conduit 36 to a low temperature section 32 of a superheater, the section 32 being connected by a conduit 38 to a high temperature section 34. This section comprises several sinuous tubes 41 disposed in parallel planes and connected as shown, half to a header 48 and half to a header 50. The headers are interconnected by a connector 54 and convey superheated steam to the two inlets of the turbine 12, the arrangement of the tubes ensuring that the temperature of the steam is the same for both inlets. In an alternative arrangement alternate pairs of tubes are connected to a different one of the two headers.
