Abstract
1489413 Apparatus for crystal pulling SIEMENS AG 1 Oct 1974 [3 Oct 1973 (2)] 42647/74 Heading BIS An apparatus for pulling a crystal from a melt comprises a pressure chamber 30 containing a melt in a crucible 38 and fitted with a pulling mechanism 50 and pressure tight observation ports 40, 41, 42 each comprising a long rod of transparent refractory material e.g. quartz 44, 46 one end of which can be viewed from outside the chamber and the other end of which extends from the chamber wall into the chamber to a position near the melt surface. During crystal pulling of e.g. gallium phosphide the end of the quartz rod nearest the melt will rise in temperature to about 600‹C and volatile constituents of the melt do not condense thereon and obscure visibility, unlike conventional viewing ports. A television camera 60 may be used for viewing through the ports.
