Abstract
1507442 Charging crucibles into a furnace INTERATOM INTERNATIONALE ATOMREAKTORBAU GmbH 29 Nov 1976 [2 Dec 1975] 49731/76 Heading F4B An apparatus for heating crucibles or other receptacles in the presence of a gas comprises a refractory tube 21 surrounded by a heating device 23 with insulating material 22 forming a furnace 5 and a charging device 5 having a housing 25 and piston 27 with a plurality of bores 28 that can align crucibles 29 with the tube 21 so that they can be heated in the gas within the furnace. The piston 27 forms a seal with the wall of the housing 25 and the device 6 is connected sealingly, but may be separable to the other parts of the apparatus, so that it can be detached and loaded with crucibles in an inert atmosphere. Gas is supplied to the apparatus by a line 24 and discharges at 32. In one embodiment the device 6 connects with a tube 31 having a lifting device 7 so that a crucible can be lifted from a bore 28 into the furnace 5 and then returned again to the bore before the piston 27 is advanced to bring another crucible in line with the tubes 21 and 31. The apparatus may be used for determining carbon in distillation residues of sodium samples, in a system which includes a gas chromatograph (9), Fig. 1 (not shown).
