Abstract
1489212 Uni-directionably solidified Co, Cr, C eutectic alloy BBC BROWN BOVERI & CO Ltd 9 Oct 1974 [17 Oct 1973] 43790/74 Heading C7A A cast anisotropic body comprising a monovarient ternary eutectic alloy of Co, Cr and C of composition lying within the shaded sector of Fig. 1, the corner compositions of which are:- Co, Me = 53À1%; Cr, Me =44À7%; C = 2À2% Co, Me = 50À25%; Cr, Me = 47% ; C = 2À75% Co, Me= 67À15%; Cr, Me = 30% ; C = 2À85% Co, Me = 62À5%; Cr, Me = 34% ; C = 3À5% the eutectic part of the alloy comprising a matrix phase consisting essentially of Co containing at least Cr in solid solution and a dispersed phase consisting essentially of a carbide of the Formula Cr 7-x-y Co x Me y C 3 where x is 0 to 2, y is 0 to 4 and Me is an additional component contained in the matrix and dispersed phase and consists of Al above or in combination with one or more of the elements Mn, Y, B, rare earth elements, the dispersed phase consisting essentially of a plurality of high strength carbide fibres oriented in substantial alignment embedded in the matrix phase and having an aspect ratio of not less than 50 the aluminium being present in amounts of from 0À1 to 3 wt. per cent based on the total weight of the cast body. The body may be produced by unidirectional solidification, may have fibres of thickness 0À1 t 3 Á and may be used in the manufacture of gas turbine blades.
