1489087 Dithianes and dithiolanes F HOFFMANN-LA ROCHE & CO AG 20 Dec 1974 [21 Dec 1973] 23144/74 Divided out of 1489086 Heading C2C The invention comprises novel compounds (I), (II) and (III) (including salts thereof) in which n stands for 2 or 3, X<SP>1</SP> represents a sulphur atom or SO 2 , X has the same meaning as X<SP>1</SP> or represents SO, R<SP>1</SP> represents a group of the Formula (IV) in which R<SP>1</SP> 1 , K<SP>1</SP> 2 and R<SP>1</SP> 3 each represent a hydrogen or halogen atom or a lower alkyl group containing 2-6 carbon atoms, a lower alkoxy group containing 2-6 carbon atoms, an aryl-(lower alkoxy), aryloxy, phenyl, nitro, amino, lower alkylthio, trifluoromethyl, hydroxy, cyano, di(lower alkyl)-amino, lower alkanoylamino, carboxyl, lower alkoxycarbonyl, lower alkylsulphonyl, hydroxymethyl, lower alkanoyloxy, amido, lower alkanoyl, sulphamoyl, mono(lower alkyl) sulphamoyl, di(lower alkyl) sulphamoyl, aminocarbonyloxy, mono- (lower alkyl) aminocarbonyloxy, di(lower alkyl) aminocarbonyloxy or (lower alkylamino) -(lower alkyl) group with the proviso that at least one of the symbols R<SP>1</SP> 1 , R<SP>1</SP> 2 and R<SP>1</SP> 3 represents other than a hydrogen atom and that, in the case where two of the symbols R<SP>1</SP> 1 , R<SP>1</SP> 2 and R<SP>1</SP> 3 each represent a hydrogen atom, the third symbol represents other than a halogen atom in the p-position; in which R represents a group of the formula in which R 1 , R 2 and R 3 each represent a hydrogen or halogen atom or a lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, aryl-(lower alkoxy), aryloxy, phenyl, nitro, amino, lower alkylthio, trifluoromethyl, hydroxy, cyano, di(lower alkyl) amino, lower alkanoylamino, carboxyl, lower alkoxycarbonyl, lower alkylsulphonyl, hydroxymethyl, lower alkanoyloxy, amido, lower alkanoyl, sulphamoyl, mono(lower alkyl) sulphamoyl, di- (lower alkyl) sulphamoyl, aminocarbonyloxy, mono(lower alkyl) aminocarbonyloxy, di(lower alkyl) aminocarbonyloxy or (lower alkylamino)- (lower alkyl) group or two adjacent R 1 , R 2 and R 3 symbols together represent a methylenedioxy, ethylenedioxy or butadien-1,3-ylene 1,4 group, R 4 represents a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group, R 5 , R 6 and R, each represent a hydrogen or halogen atom or a lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, hydroxy or benzyloxy group or two adjacent R 5 , R 6 and R 7 symbols together represent a methylenedioxy or ethylenedioxy group, Y 1 represents a straight-chain or branched-chain, optionally carbonyl-substituted, aliphatic group containing 2-8 carbon atoms, of which 2-4 carbon atoms are present in the chain, Z 1 represents a straight-chain or branchedchain, optionally carbonyl-substituted, aliphatic group containing 1-8 carbon atoms, of which 1-4 carbon atoms are present in the chain, Y represents a straight-chain or branchedchain, optionally hydroxysubstituted, aliphatic group containing 2-8 carbon atoms, of which 2-4 carbon atoms are present in the chain, Q represents a hydrogen atom and T represents a group of the Formula (VII) or Q represents a radical R in which R has the above-mentioned meaning and T represents a group of the formula in which Z represents a straight-chain or branched - chain, optionally hydroxy - substituted, aliphatic group containing 1-8 carbon atoms, of which 1-4 carbon atoms are present in the chain, m stands for 0 or 1 and A represents the group in which R 4 , R 5 , R 6 and R 7 have the abovementioned meanings and R 8 denotes a leaving atom or group. The groups qualified by lower contain up to 6 carbons and aryl signifies phenyl optionally substituted by halogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, NO 2 and amino, A leaving atom or group is, e.g. halogen, alkyl- or aryl-sulphonyloxy or epoxy. The compounds are made by a variety of standard methods.
