1455740 Benzylpyrimidines F HOFFMANNLA ROCHE & CO AG 26 July 1974 [27 July 1973] 04562/76 Divided out of 1455736 Heading C2C Compounds of the general formula (R<SP>1,2</SP> = alkyl, alkenyl; X<SP>11</SP> = Cl, Br, OH; A<SP>3</SP> = CF 3 , CN, alkoxycarbonyl, CR<SP>8</SP>R<SP>9</SP>R<SP>14</SP>; R<SP>8,9</SP> = H, alkyl; R<SP>14</SP> = alkoxy, NR<SP>3</SP>R<SP>4</SP> or R<SP>9+14</SP> = alkylenedioxy; R<SP>3,4</SP> = H, alkyl, alkanoyl) are prepared by condensing a compound of the formula (R<SP>5</SP> = alkyl) with guanidine in an alkaline medium, optionally followed by replacement of the OH group by Cl or Br.
