Abstract

1488879 Conveyer belt systems LUCAS ELECTRICAL Ltd 8 May 1975 [18 May 1974] 22263/74 Heading B8A An assembly line system comprises a plurality of work stations (Figs. 1 and 2, not shown) between each of which is a conveyer unit forming the subject of Specification 1,488,880. In each unit a conveyer belt 27 is normally running, but stops when a workpiece being conveyed obturates a light source 34, focused on a light responsive diode 35. When the workpiece is picked up by an operator, for work to be effected upon it, the conveyer re-starts. The belt 27 is carried by a unit which can be linked up at either end to adjacent units. A rail 33 which surrounds the unit, has a cranked section 33a at one end. This may either be engaged with the non-cranked end of an adjacent unit (Fig. 7) or a knotched portion 26b of the frame of the unit, may engage the rail 33 of the adjacent unit (Fig. 6, not shown). Layouts are described in which an assembly line is formed of a series of units in line (Fig. 1, not shown), one line branches into two parallel downstream lines (Fig. 2, not shown) and two upstream lines combine into a single downstream line (Fig. 3, not shown).
