Description

A modular feeding and transportation unit
Objects or substrates are transported by belts, multiple belts or by moving a mounting table inside and then outside a machine so that substrates or objects can be handled, finished, coated or accomplish any other action needed in a production line to produce goods. The invention is related to a modular feeding and transportation unit that allows substrates and objects to be moved and treated in relation to the procedures, tooling or technology used and through adding and interconnection of extra working tables, the unit can be extended to a wider and longer production system whereas all the components built in the worktable and through interconnection guarantee a continuous, stable and efficient feeding of the substrate and objects through the modular feeding and transportation unit. Different types of equipment can be integrated from image registration or analyzing, substrate or object verification, cutting, welding, printing, coating, pre- or after treatment procedures to name a few. The flexibility requested in the production environment these days has increased that an efficient feeding and transportation unit has become a necessity to comply with the productivity needed to fulfill customers demands and to be competitive in the market where cost, interoperability and efficiency have become more important aspects in the complete production process . By implementing a modular feeding and transportation unit, this opportunity is created and multiple phases of the production process can be realized, this as well for substrates in rigid or flexible form, small or large objects, flat or three dimensional objects, textile or other roll or no-roll material. By the implementation of a modular feeding and transportation unit the possibility is created whereas with a minimum of investment, different tasks of the production process can be realized and only when the production increases, an additional system has to be integrated. A system that offers flexibility, gives the user a much better position in relation to competition but also to react accordingly when production and sales increase, all this with a capital offering a realistic return on investment. The invention, a modular feeding and transportation unit, that consists out of modular working table (1) , equipment (2) and configured to be used as a hybrid multifunctional production unit. Shown in fig 1 perspective, fig 2 side view with console, fig 3 top view, fig 4 top view of the extended version in length, fig 5 top view of extended version in width and length, fig 6 side view of feeding board, fig 7 top view of a modular feeding board. The modular working table (1) , equipped with the necessary sensors and switches (8) , (9) , (11) , (12) , (13) that takes care of the correct signalization, is mounted on a base frame (5) equipped with a height adjustment system (4) and a mounting platform (3) whereon equipment is installed. The modular feeding and transportation unit consisting out of a modular worktable (1) , base frame (5) , mounting platform (3) , height adjustment system (4) to adjust the height of the equipment, signalization module (40) en when mounted on a central console (27) , the modular feeding and transportation unit can completely be adjusted to the operation height by the height adjustment unit (28) without changing the distance between the worktable (1) , whereon the substrate or object is placed, and the equipment (2) . This configuration, where the worktable (1) and equipment (2), frame (5), height adjustment system (4) are mounted on a central console, also allows the extended modules, extended in length and width, to be mounted on an extended console to keep a uniform platform whereon the complete modular feeding and transportation unit is installed and modified in height as one unit. By adjusting the height between the worktable (1) and the equipment (2) vertical in a perpendicular direction, all parameters and coordinates
(x,y, z) stay intact and on identical positions regarding the substrate or object.
By adjusting the complete modular feeding and transportation unit in height, through the console (27) and the height adjustment unit (28), places it at the ideal working height for the user, respecting the ergonomically conditions and health factors .
The distance between the modular worktable (1) and the equipment (2) can be adjusted so that the system will be set for the treatment of the substrate accordingly to the technology used. The system can also be adjusted in height and this for the complete modular feeding and transportation unit installed on the console so the possibility is given to work on the unit in sitting or standing up position or adjustment in height for disabled people so they can also be actively involved in the sectors where this invention can be implemented. The information and parameters can be stored in a memory module whereas the user for proper height adjustment settings can recall the profile stored. The modular feeding and transportation unit can be turned completely, for example 90 or 180 degrees, so they can be installed in series one after the other by pivoting around the central point and creating a production line, whereas every unit has identical equipment (2) or different types of equipment (2) for specific tasks at every position. In other applications, part of the worktable (1) can be extended so perfect adjustments or connections can be made between the modules .
All information for specific job actions can be stored in a memory module related to substrate, fabric, tooling or other procedures in the production or handling phases of substrates or objects, and when selected all equipment (2) will be adjusted to the requested job or activity. By adjusting, the height of the equipment (2) in relation to the worktable (1) , different substrates or objects of different thickness can be handled. Other applications use a different technique and allow the table to be adjusted with the equipment installed in a fixed position. To name just one example where this invention is a perfect solution, is in the digital printing industry whereas normally the object is mounted on a table that is adjustable in height and the machine in a fixed position limiting the operations of the product. This invention is the perfect solution for an application like this, whereas with this invention the object is mounted on a worktable, positioned on a fixed height and the equipment adjustable in height offering opportunities not executable when the equipment is in a fixed position. The example given is only one aspect but because different applications can be used the are where the invention can be used is not limited to digital printing only.
Through this invention, the distance between the worktable (1) and the equipment (2) depends on the integrated height adjustment system (4) . The height adjustment system (4) can be modular adjusted for the respective operational height with a factor integrator, mm length arm "a" with rotation point "c" give placement of mm length arm "b" like a system used in momentum force so different height can be obtained. The modular feeding and transportation unit is adjusted in height, vertically and perpendicularly, so the coordinates in relation to the substrate or objects are respected in the production process without changing any parameters whatsoever. The height adjustment system can be executed manually, automatically, mechanically, electrically, hydraulically, pneumatically or any other technology to obtain movement or momentum and this to obtain, hold or modify the necessary parameters during the production process and this manually or automatically. This can be obtained by using sensors or electronic components, analog or digital that can realize the necessary input or output for automatic adjustments or corrections and in case of error sent the right signal to alert the user or even to stop production and limit the damage to the technologies, substrate or objects used.
The modular feeding and transportation unit can, when equipped with the respective tool or equipment (2), execute a specific job, an aspect that highlights the multifunctional operations of this invention. In addition, other equipment (2) can be added, above for top treatment, underneath for treatment on the bottom, sidewise for vertical and side operations or mounted in a specific position under a specific angle to treat the substrate or object in a specific way. The transportation system is equipped with wheels (6), that are installed in specific locations to complete feeding of the substrate or objects through the modular feeding and transportation unit. These wheels (6) can be installed next to each with a dedicated distance between them or installed next to each other so they form a roll and continue contact over the complete width with the substrate or object. These wheels (6) can also be installed on multiple shafts installed parallel of each other and inter connected for smooth and continue transportation. These wheels can also be replaced with single rolls or multiple rolls that can even be interconnected with each other and offering continue traction. The transportation unit, more specific the wheels (6), belts or rolls, can be treated with a specific material to increase contact with the substrate or object and eliminate irregular transportation or slip during handling. The transportation unit can also be made in pvc or metal, worm driving unit, rack transportation technology, spindle drive technology, time belt drive unit, hook system for easy transportation of substrates, objects or modular feeding boards and offering good contact and continue transportation. In the modular worktable (1) one or more feeding technologies (6) can be installed that all operate with identical and respective speed necessary for the feeding of the substrate or object through the equipment (2) . Because specific transportation technology as wheels are installed in dedicated zones other then belts, operations that are more flexible can be executed not conflicting with other zones whatsoever. The transport system is therefore modular so other technologies can be implemented in the modular feeding and transportation unit. The invention also allows to execute a continue production process through feeding boards (41) in a standard or modular version, whereas through interconnection these boards can be connected and fed through modular feeding and transportation unit . The transport unit can also be equipped with belts or transportation modules in dedicated locations that operate at the respective speed for the task during the production process and for a specific operation and when finished will be fed into the next phase of the process where the next process of the production will take over. The feeding technology can also be adjusted for specific jobs whereas the substrate will be taken between two rolls and fed into the system, thereafter fed into a second unit identical as the input module to keep the substrate in the right position, and tight so that the efficient treatment of the substrate can be obtained. The input and output module are identical regarding the speed for smooth and stable operation. To feed another type of substrate that is flexible, the feeding unit can be equipped with a roll feeder unit
(14) that can be used as an unwind unit or roll feeder unit holding the roll of substrate whereas the worktable (1) is equipped with a guiding unit (38) . Pressure can be given by the roll (16) mounted on the respective arms (18) giving the right pressure onto the roll (37) between which the substrate is fed. The roll (16) can also be a multiple version whereas multiple rolls (16) mounted on the respective arms (18) and parallel to deliver a more continuous and stable feeding of the substrate through the modular feeding and transportation unit. At the end of the worktable (1) , the flexible substrate is fed onto the roll unit
(15) for up winding of the substrate. Roll unit (15) can be equipped with a tension system to keep winding of the substrate constant and under the right pressure without conflicting with the feeding speed of the substrate through the modular feeding and transport unit. This tensioner unit can be equipped with a friction module that increases the friction every time the tension on the substrate decreases and the substrate feeds onto the roll until the tension on the substrate increases and the friction on the roll unit (15) decreases so the roll unit (15) stops winding the substrate. The tensioner unit can also be equipped with a bearing system whereon a defined friction, that can be adjusted, is applied, enough for winding up of the substrate onto the roll unit (15) and where the inner and outer module of the bearing are linked with a pressure difference module to apply the right tension onto the roll unit (15) . By applying this winding procedure a stable and continue pressure is used so the substrate is fed through the complete production process. The technology used can be mechanical, hydraulically, pneumatically or electrical so the right tension can be applied, set or adjusted. The modular feeding and transportation unit can be equipped with an optional worktable (21) , identical or not identical as worktable (1) , allowing to install an extension on the base model and creating a production unit from length "x" to length "y" to treat longer substrates or objects. By interconnecting worktable (1) and one or more worktables (21) , installed in length or width, different, longer or wider zones can be created, every zone for a wider, longer or specific task, for example, a pre treatment zone (33) , a treatment zone by specific equipment and technology (2) and an after treatment zone (34) , but equipment (33) , (34) can also be other applications and not limited to pre or after treatment solutions. By adding extra worktables (21) the transmission modules (7) , mounted in every worktable (1) and (21) , are interconnected through coupling unit (24) and whereas transportation speed is uniform throughout the production process. Transportation speed is dictated by the equipment (2) used for substrate or object treatment. In relation to the processing in the respective zones and the installed equipment (2) , (33) and (34) the processing zones can apply identical production speed or a transportation speed dedicated and linked to the processing of the installed equipment (2) , (33) and
(34) in the respective location of the production line and whereas the interconnection and related transportation speeds are synchronized through programmable modules .
Through the assembly of a modular feeding and transportation unit the investment can be brought back to a minimum and when needed can be made complete by adding extra modules when needed.
Another option is the possibility to extend the modular feeding and transportation unit in the width and length by installing one or multiple worktables (1) , (21) next to each other and, or, in line, as many as needed in relation to the equipment (2) used and connect theses with each other so they form a complete production line. This modularity, module per module or as a complete set, offers the opportunity to start with a standard base unit and built a complete production unit, handling all aspects needed in the manufacturing process.
The transportation unit (7) , installed in the modular worktable (1), (21) or feeding system (16), (37) are interconnected sideways and in the length of each module, through the connection module (24) , to create a continue and stable feeding of the substrates or objects through the modular feeding and transportation unit and this through the main motor and driving unit installed in the base unit that takes care of the activation. The motor and driving unit can also be repeated for specific loads or usage of the system. The modular worktable (1) , (21) can be equipped with independent operational zones that will function within their time frame and control their start and stop position so no conflicts arise with other operations during the production process, this can be an alignment procedure or coordinate input to get the process prepared and sent the signal to start the production process, without interfering with the other processes. Once finished, the next step in the production process can be started until all steps in the production line are completed. All individual phases can be equipped with a specific transportation system (7) for feeding the substrate in the respective zone whereas moving to the following process another transportation system will take over and so on until the complete process is finished.
The coupling unit (22) can be equipped with a reduction gear (24) that allows the transportation speed to be adapted in relation to the processing technology used, controllable through the sensors (8), (9), (11), (12), (13) and connected to the respective switching unit the start, stop and production procedures activate. The modular worktable (1) , (21) can be equipped with roller units (20) , installed a number of millimeters above the surface of the worktable at multiple locations and used for smooth movement of the substrate and not blocking the transportation unit (7) equipped with the wheels (6) that takes care of the transportation itself. These roller units (20) can be adjusted for smooth and stable guidance during transportation. For substrates that are more flexible a suction section can be installed to keep substrate in place while treatment takes place.
On both sides, guidance units (19) are installed so substrate will be guided straight and continuous through the modular feeding and transportation unit while testing or production takes place. These guidance units (19) can be adjusted independently so fine-tuning and smooth operations can be obtained. By doing so, these can be completely moved inwards for narrow width material whereas this kind of substrate can be placed on one side, left or right, in the middle or any other location within the complete width of the working area. Using this invention allows the user to treat substrates or objects from different width and thickness, let it be mm, cm or meters, and create a complete production line with multifunctional activities from pre- treatment, integrate equipment with different technologies and execute the after treatment, finishing and event the packaging of the product and this for rigid, flexible or even substrates on roll.
The height adjustment of the complete system, meaning the modular worktable (1), (21) and equipment (2), (33) , (34) , that even can be placed before or after the worktable (1) , (21) including the frame (5) and height adjustment unit (4) , when installed on a central console (27) equipped with the respective height adjustment system (28) , can be adjusted in height completely so it can be used while sitting or standing up. By using this opportunity, the invention allows disabled people to use the system and production process .
Using a programming module the opportunity is offered to store different parameters that allow, when selected, that the system sets all parameters in relation to the job, user, profile selected and this for mounting the worktable (1) , (21) in a specific position in relation to the equipment (2) , (33) , (34) but also the complete system so the user, when selecting his/her profile, has all parameters set including the operational height of the equipment for the specific job but also the operational height of the complete system. The two settings, job and operational, can be selected individual when needed, can be mechanical, electrical, pneumatically or hydraulically activated.
For accurate adjustment of the complete production system, whereas multiple units consisting out of worktable (1), (21) and equipment (2), (33), (34) are installed, multiple consoles (27) with the respective height adjustment unit (28) are interconnected so complete leveling and settings can be achieved and this over the complete line.
The modular feeding and transportation unit can be made out of, metal, pvc, recycled material or any material that offers stable, efficient or flexible construction possibilities that guarantee the smooth transportation of substrates or objects. Model, structure or profiles used can be U-form, rectangular, square, triangle, flat or any form offering modularity and flexible integration of the necessary components like sensors, switches, detectors, electro-mechanical components, motors, transportation units, tensioners and feeding units .
The height adjustment unit (4) consists out of one or multiple parts and can be executed through a single or multiple scissor type system, worm and gear, pneumatic, hydraulic, electric activated units installed on each side or central positioned and activated through the module (40) for every platform and through linkage and synchronization of the units installed at each side of the system to guarantee parallel and perpendicular movement of the equipment (2), (33), (34) and this in relation to the worktable (1), (21).
The modular worktable (1) , (21) consists out of all the components necessary to fulfill the functionalities and this in case a problem will occur, the worktable can be removed and replaced with another by just reconnecting the units among them and connecting the necessary cables. The signaling and operation can be wireless, electrical, mechanical, hydraulically or pneumatically. The transportation, responsible for the movement of the substrates or objects, can be done by single or multiple belts, chain, cable, wheels, worm type units, hydraulically, pneumatically, electrically, mechanically driven through gear box, accelerators, speed controllable units or any device to guarantee stable and constant movement of the substrate or object in the respective production zone and without conflicting with the other processes in the production line. The necessary tensioners are installed to keep transport constant and stable but also to protect the technology used from damaging and excessive maintenance and support.
The transportation modules built in the worktable (I)/ (21) are interconnected through the module (24) that connects the transportation modules of the different worktables when extension in length and width is done. These connection modules (24) can be activated or deactivated when necessary to limit usage and only use these when needed. The modular worktable (I)/ (21) are equipped with connection modules (22) , (23) to connect units in length or width. This can be done through an hook and latch system, screw type connection/ bayonet type fast connection to name a few or any connection system that guarantees a stable and good fixation. The base version can be equipped with support arms, built into the worktable (1) that can slide in and out or installed on worktable or on the central console
(27) to create stability when this unit is extended.
These arms (27) can be turned inwards when not used for easy access.
The modular worktable (1), (21) can be equipped can be with a variable gearbox (24), mechanical, hydraulically, pneumatically, electrical or electronically controlled, programmable allowing directly or indirectly activating the respective production zones . The transportation motors can be centralized in the base version or installed in the systems as an option or for every individual equipment (2) , (33), (34) can be installed directly in the worktable (1), (21) minimizing coupling and modules needed to built the modular feeding and transportation unit. The transportation speed can be guaranteed and selected through and sensing and control unit also but by implementing adjustable wheels that by changing the radius the relative speed is adapted to the production process. By changing this diameter all connection and driving systems used, from belts to wheels and this with the tensioner system in place, offer a flexible, stable and efficient production unit with the transportation speed needed for the related production process and this from substrates like pvc, metal, wood, glass, paper, ceramics, textile, leather, polymers and objects for advertisement, clothing treatment, production process, finishing to name a few. The modular feeding and transportation unit is a system where the computer technology can implement an important roll and therefore can be integrated in the system directly, where with all components like software and hardware built in become a complete solution that can be linked to a network, virtual private network or the internet. For security reasons the computer, software and other communication modules can be installed in a well-secured module to protect these from surge and inductive fields generated by emergency stops, malfunctions or other causes generated in the networks, IT environments and even software can be destroyed, or procedures interrupted or damaged. The modular feeding and transportation unit can be managed and programmed remotely so accounting can be realized, problems can be located, interventions more efficient, backups made and other services applicable in relation to increase and manage the system. Application that is more critical can run on a hot swappable unit where in case of malfunction the master and slave configuration will be managed and the faulty module will be taken over by the intact module to assure continuity.
Connecting the modular feeding and transportation unit to a network, parameters can be adjusted, other functionalities activated or modified.
Software modules can be integrated allowing template or models to be loaded by specifying the x and y coordinates for positioning the substrate or object in the right location, so the equipment (2) can perform the task correctly and accurately. These templates can be shown on the screen or projected directly on the substrate or object to assure the right location. The modular feeding and transportation unit allows different applications to be used like digital printers, screen printers, scanners, cameras, wood and metal treatment appliances, sewing machines, filling systems, cutting machines, welding machines, sublimation systems, etching machines, paint brush tools, plotters, packaging machines, food or non food machinery or any machine that can be used for substrate or object treatment, put in a production or assembly line for substrate or object treatment purposes. Because the modular feeding and transportation unit can be extended in length and width, offers a wide variety of substrates and objects that can be treated. In case when a wider model with wider substrates then the equipment (2) is used, treatment can be done through the sliding mechanism (32) , allowing the equipment to be moved over the substrate at the position where the treatment has to be done. By sliding the equipment (2) installed on the sliding module (32) over the worktable
(1), (21) offers the possibility to treat substrates wider then the equipment and to repeat the procedure as many times as needed in the production line by installing multiple machines in cascade spread over the length so the operation can be repeated until the substrate is finished.
Another possibility is to install different worktables (1) , (21) with each a different height adjustment system (4) so the substrate is treated with the right parameters and the right distance between the equipment
(2) , (33) , (34) and the substrate where different applications are executed. The modular feeding and transportation unit also allow that mounting boards, whereon substrates or objects can be mounted, to be fed thought the system. Through the structure of these feeding boards (41), continuous contact can be obtained on the feeding plate (45) that is fed over the transportation unit. The size of the feeding boards (41) can vary and these in relation to the different models but also the feeding plate (45) in relation to the mounting plate (46) on which the substrates are mounted or objects are placed. The feeding plate (45) is separated from the mounting plate (46) by a distance module (42) so excess material can stored underneath so equipment or processing can be jeopardize during the production process. These feeding boards and mounting plates can have pre-defined models for easy production processing or efficient loading, unloading, mounting or removing of substrates or objects. The feeding boards
(41) can also consist out of removable components (43) so models can be made using these components, sliding these in or out, turn them in or out, lift these up and down and so obtaining the right model for the job.
Another opportunity is to connect these mounting boards
(41) with each other, by using the connection module (44) , and creating a daisy chain of feeding boards fed through the modular feeding and transportation unit continuously. This connection module (44) allows an easy connection or disconnection during processing and a batch production so dimension "x" can be multiplied with factor "y" as many as feeding boards fed through the modular feeding and transportation unit. Because the modular feeding and transportation unit can be set up in production zones, montage boards (41) can be put in a holding pattern until a detection sensor sends a signal to connect or to disconnect. The advantages of the feeding boards (41) are multiple, so preparation can be done, efficient operations can be carried out, and batch production can be carried out with a limited investment. The connection can consist of different technologies, from the hook connection offering smooth connection and disconnection on the run, magnetic system, Velcro or any other technology that allows a connection disconnection procedure. The mounting boards
(41) can even be equipped with a height adjustment module (47) allowing changing the distance between the feeding plate (45) and the mounting plate (46) and in this manner increase or decrease the storage room between them. The mounting boards (41) can also be equipped with templates and coordinates that can be placed on the mounting plate (46) for accurate positioning of the substrate or object.
The modular feeding and transportation unit can also be equipped with a heating module so substrates or objects can be treated in the pre-, after treatment zones, or even during the production process. These heating modules can be installed above, under, left or right of the modular feeding and transportation unit or in all locations and be activated when needed. The heating module can consist out of a heating unit, lamp, and radiation system whereas the heat can be directed to the substrate. Another heating system can be a fixation drum, where heat is transferred from the drum to the substrate or the object and that through contact with the substrate or the object creates a reaction needed to fixate the technology used. In some procedures, heating is replaced with cooling to obtain the result needed. Sensors installed in the modular feeding and transportation unit will sent the signal to the controlling module activating the heating or cooling module in the zone specified. Heating or cooling module can be done through electrical module, temperature controlled liquid system, steam, liquid cooling fluid or generators or any other transferable temperature controlled unit.
Pre or after treatment units can also consist of a UV system (26) , lamp or LED, that through the technology used correct uv treatment allows on the substrate or object. The modular feeding and transportation unit is also equipped with protection and safety screens to protect the user from any danger or malfunction that may occur during the production process. The complete system can be set up that the modular feeding and transportation unit can be licensed to a user or group whereas per user, volume can be programmed and when limit is reached another package has to be purchased or fleet production has to be increased.
