Abstract
1488604 Centrifugal pumps CHANDLER EVANS Inc 30 Jan 1975 [8 Feb 1974] 4141/75 Heading F1C A centrifugal pump comprises a driver impeller 10 driven by a shaft 14 and bearing vanes 34' which mate with and entrain corresponding vanes 36' on a driven impeller 12 to define flow channels 34, 36 the flow area of which varies in response to changes in back pressure in order to maintain substantially constant pump output pressure. Fluid which passes through inlet 22 is induced into the impellers by the rotation of a spring 26 and is subsequently passed into a toriodal collector 32. Increase in back pressure is compensated by increased separation of impellers 10, 12 against the force in spring 26, resulting in a corresponding flow area increase, the pump output pressure thereby being maintained constant.
