1487948 Pipe joints HUNTING OILFIELD SERVICES Ltd 2 Feb 1976 [16 Dec 1974] 54333/74 Heading F2G Pipes 1, 2, e.g. high tensile steel forgings, are releasably connected spigot and socket fashion by a resilient split ring 7 lying within a groove 6 in the socket 2 and an aligned groove 5 in the spigot 1, the ring 7 when unstressed projecting from the groove 6 and being movable between a position in which the pipes 1, 2 are free to telescope and one in which they are axially locked, the movement being produced by a series of devices 9 spaced around the socket 2 secured to the ring 7 and screw-threaded into the socket. Each device 9 comprises a tubular part 10 screwthreaded in a bore 11 in the socket 2 and a second part 12 secured to the ring 7 and slidable to a limited extent within the tubular part 10, flanges 12e, 10a on the two parts contacting when the tubular part 10 is unscrewed sufficiently from the socket 2 and thereby enabling the ring to be moved into the groove 6 enable telescoping of the pipes 1, 2. Locking of the pipes 1, 2 is produced by screwing the tubular part 10 inwardly until its flange 10a bears against the ring and forces it into the groove 5. The pipes 1, 2 and the ring 7 are bevelled 3, 4, 8 for ease of connection. Pins around the circumference of the spigot 1 engage recesses in the socket 2 to prevent relative rotation. Seals 15, 16 in grooves in the spigot and socket 1, 2 are provided.
