Abstract

1487824 Malt stirrers BIMACO SA 11 Aug 1975 [14 Aug 1974] 33408/75 Heading B1C [Also in Divisions B8 and C6] In a malting plant consisting essentially of circular containers 4, Fig. 1, each provided with a fixed perforated floor 7 and a rotatable turner-leveller 5 (malt stirrer), a system of valves, Fig. 2, is incorporated for distributing the grain between containers, discharging treated product from the container and water-tight retention of the grain in the container during the steeping and germination stages. A shutter 11 enables grain to be forwarded either directly to the container in question or through a tube 12 to a lower container. The container outlet 18 is sealed by the abutment of the telescopic tube 12 against a conical seating 15 (see the halfsection on the left in Fig. 2). In this position, a cylindrical casing 13, which is rigidly attached to the telescopic tube 12, covers a set of apertures 17 in the frame 25. When the tube 12 and associated casing 13 are raised by operation of pneumatic jacks 14, discharge of the grain through the uncovered outlet may be effected by the rotary turnerleveller 5. Ventilators 8 and heat exchangers 9 serve to circulate conditioned air through the containers. The steeped and germinated grain descends to a double-floored kiln including a fan 21 and air-heating system 22, levellers 19 and discharge flaps 20.
