Abstract

1,044,970. Silos. B. SCHWARTING. Dec. 20, 1963 [Oct. 23, 1963], No. 50544/63. Heading A1F. Apparatus for stacking, drying and dispensing fodder material e.g. hay comprises a silo 1 having a central shaft 10 rotated by a motor 12, the rotary movement of the shaft being utilized to effect movement of a bell 16 so that as material is fed into the silo via pipe 27 and distributer 28 the bell is gradually raised to form a central shaft 15 through which air from a blower 6 passes to dry the material. During the filling operation arms 37 detachably supporting arcuate screens 36 rotate within the silo to form an annular space 32 between the stack of stored material 14 and the silo wall. For emptying the silo the screens 36 are removed and discs 45 having rake-like prongs 46 are secured to sockets 44 on the arms 37 which are then turned through 180 degrees, the discs being arranged either as shown in Fig. 12 so that as the arms rotate the material 14 is conveyed to space 32 and falls into feeding trough 35 or in mirror-image position in which case the material is conveyed to central shaft 15 and falls into air passage 8 from which it is removed by a conveying device to feeding points remote from the silo. The distributer 28 rotates with shaft 10 and openings may be provided in the upper part of the silo wall or between the roof and the wall.
