Abstract

1326502 Homogenizing granular materials M LEVA 27 March 1971 8005/71 Heading B1C In a multi-stage continuous discharge apparatus for blending granular materials by a combination of aeration and mechanical stirring, the material is discharged from the bottom of the first stage container, Fig. 1, and conveyed pneumatically to the top (Fig. 2, not shown) or to the bottom (Fig. 3, not shown) of the next container. The flow through the apparatus is controlled by sensing the difference in air pressure below and above the material as by means of a monometer and electrodes D, and using this to adjust the solids inlet and/or outlet valves 2', 7. In an alternative arrangement, the containers are superimposed with a common motor and stirrer shaft; (see Figs. 4 and 5, not shown). The shaft may have a rotary flange closing the opening at the bottom of the first container, the solids being transferred through an external pipe (16), or may carry a vertically adjustable annular trough 25; by adjusting its height and/or regulating the air flow through the valves 17e, 18e, the solids may be caused to flow into the lower container at a controlled rate.
