Abstract
1487301 Reciprocating pumps INDUSTRY SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 4 Sept 1974 [4 June 1973] 26611/73 Heading F1A [Also in Division F2] A pump, e.g. for a vehicle hydrostatic transmission, comprises a container 86 connected to a pump working chamber 80 via passage 85 and connected via a non-return valve 89 to the system outlet, the container acting to regulate the pump delivery to the outlet by storing energy by compression of the liquid within the container, expansion of the container, deformation of elastomer inserts in the container or deflection of a spring-loaded piston within the container. In the radial piston pump shown, each spring-loaded piston 81 has a ball engaging a rotary two-lobed cam track 83 and liquid enters the pumping chamber 80 from inlet 97 via passages 102 in a rotary pintle valve on drive-shaft 78. Liquid delivery is effected via container 86, non-return valve 89 and pintle valve passage 103. In a hydrostatic transmission, the pump shown can provide engine braking by being driven as a motor by the vehicle wheel motors acting as pumps during over-run. In Figs. 1 and 2 (not shown), opposed pairs of pistons (12) are reciprocated in axial cylinders by axiallyacting, two-lobed cam members (14) on a driveshaft (6), each cylinder being connected to a respective container (18) and the cylinder and container being connected to a respective inlet and outlet via non-return valves (19), (25). A hydrostatic transmission circuit is described (see Division F2).
