Abstract

1486818 Web feeding HERMANN BERSTORFF MASCHINENBAU GmbH 18 Dec 1974 [24 Dec 1973] 54695/74 Heading B8R An apparatus for feeding rubber strips 16, 17 in succession to a hopper 15 of an extruder 12 comprises a pair of endless belts 1, 18, driven alternately by respective drive means 7, 22, which, when operative, drive also a pair of feed rollers 9, 11 through respective chains 29, 31, the speed of the drive means being controllable by a device 28. In operation strip 16 is fed by conveyer belt 18 and rollers 9, 11 to the hopper 15 provided with ultrasonic sensors 23 to 25 which transmit pulses to the control unit 28 in turn emitting an output signal over a lead 30 to apply it to the drive means 22 and control its speed accordingly. When a sensor roller 20 has detected the trailing end of the strip 16 a signal is sent to the control device 28 which actuates respective clutches to stop the feed roller 11 from being driven by the drive means 22 and transfer the drive to the drive means 7 causing strip 17 to be fed by the belt 1. Control of belt 1 is effected by the sensors 23 to 25 via the control device 28 and a line 29.
