Abstract

1486038 Dry shavers GILLETTE CO 22 Oct 1975 [11 Nov 1974] 43408/75 Heading B4B [Also in Division F2] A dry-shaver comprises a shear plate 14 and a co-operating cutter plate 22 each provided with the same polygonal-shaped apertures 16, 24 denning coacting cutting edges and drive means 50, 54 for driving the cutter plate relative to the shear plate along a path having the same polygonal shape as that of the cutter and shear plate apertures to produce a shearing action between the co-operating cutting edges. The cutting plate 22 is secured to a support member 40, of plastics material and formed with cam-follower members 58 adapted to be engaged by cams 54 provided on a drive member 63; the drive members are rotated by gears 74, 76 via an electric motor 80. The shape of the cams is such as to cause the cutter plate to move in a substantially square path over the surface of the shear plate; in each complete cycle of movement of the shear plate each cutting aperture 24 moves across sixteen apertures in the shear plate, Fig. 11 (not shown). The cutter plate is formed with teeth 28 for co-operation with apertures 18 in the shear plate for long hair trimming.
