Abstract

1485430 Foam producing nozzle attachment CHEMTRUST INDUSTRIES CORP 23 Dec 1974 [14 Jan 1974] 55482/74 Headings B1C and B2F A foam-producing attachment 33b for a liquid-spray producing nozzle 33a, comprises a hollow cylindrical body 40 provided with air-inlet ports 43 immediately in front of a known spray-angle adjusting member 33c, secured into the body 40; a pressure-reducing passageway having a portion 46a tapering in the downstream direction and having a cylindrical turret portion 46b; and a foam thickness-enhancing cylindrical expansion chamber 41 having a diameter greater than that of the throat portion 46b, so that during use the liquid-spray issuing through a flared orifice 42 under pressure mixes with air entering through the ports 43 and foam is produced in the passageway. The spacing between outlet orifices 32 of the nozzle 33a and the orifice 42 is adjustable by rotating the attachment relative to the nozzle 33a so as to vary the cone angle of the spray and thereby vary consistency of the foam, the latter being maximum when the spray impinges on the walls of the tapered portion 46a. The cone angle of the tapered portion is at least 60‹. The length to diameter ratio of the expansion chamber 41 is preferably between 7 and 20 to obtain high consistency foam issuing with sufficient velocity to reach a surface to be cleaned; and the diameter of the expansion chamber 41 is at least twice, and preferably three times, the diameter of the throat portion 46b. Arrangements for supplying liquid containing soluble cleaning chemicals and a foaming agent to the nozzle 33a under pressure are disclosed.
