Abstract
1485058 Bottles; closing bottles BAXTER TRAVENOL LABORATORIES Inc 23 Dec 1974 [21 Dec 1973] 55433/74 Headings B8C B8D and B8T Blood plasma is stored by filling a sterile blow moulded bottle 11 which has a flattened neck portion 14, heat sealing together the opposing walls of the neck and freezing the plasma. The bottle may be provided with a membrane 17 pierceable by a plastics or metallic filling needle. Alternatively the end portion of the bottle can be broken off along a weakened line and a cap 26 screwed on. The cap has tubular extensions 29 with rubber or plastics caps 30 which can be removed for filling. An air vent 31 is also provided. The bottle has semi-annular strengthening members 18 on its bottom. The bottle is filled from a flexible bag (40) which is compressed between pivoted and fixed plates. The neck portion is sealed by electrically heated bars and the top of the bottle is then cut off. Bottles may be emptied by moving them on an inclined belt 60 underneath hold-down bars 63 while a rotating cutter slits each bottle near its bottom and a cam 64 prises the bottom outwardly. In another device a bottle is held inverted, a band saw cuts off the bottom and the plasma is emptied into a collection vessel.
