Abstract

1484516 induction furnace PILLAR CORP 18 April 1975 [6 June 1974] 16103/75 Heading H5H An induction furnace comprises an open ended induction coil 43 movable into coupling relationship with any one of a plurality of horizontally spaced metal containing crucibles 20. As shown, the coil 43 provided with a refractory lining 45 is mounted in an annular housing 46 which is secured by brackets to the telescoping sleeve 33 on a support post 32. The sleeve 33 has vertical slots 36, 37 co-operating with a guide pin 38 fixed to the post 32. In operation, the sleeve 33 is raised by a hoist acting on a lift bracket 35 until the coil 43 is above crucible 20, whereupon the slot 36 is freed from the pin 38 so that the sleeve may be rotated on bearings 39 on the post 32 by handle 53 to a position in register with crucible 20<SP>1</SP>. Slot 37 is then in register with pin 38 permitting the coil to be lowered to surround crucible 20<SP>1</SP>. More than two crucibles may be provided. More than two coils could be mounted on post 32. Also the crucibles may be linearly spaced or the coil could move in a vertical arc.
