Abstract
A wheel (18) is shrunk onto a shaft (5) which is supported on a cradle (4). The cradle is attached to a hoist (3) which slides on vertical guides (2) in a pit (6). The wheel is heated to a temp. between 250 deg.C and 350 deg.C and then suspended from a crane inside the ring (1) above the pit. The wheel is centred by the guide strips (15) and the shaft is raised by the hoist so that it enters the bore of the wheel. The assembly is removed by opening the gate (14) and swinging the cradle to a horizontal position.
