1484385 Tape combination lock PITNEYBOWES Inc 16 Aug 1974 [1 Oct 1973] 36174/74 Heading E2A A combination lock comprises sensing means to read a reference combination on a tape and means enabling operation of the lock only when a combination entered by a person using the lock is matched by the combination read by the sensing means, drive means to drive the tape positively including a Geneva Stop mechanism which drives a sprocket wheel engaging slots or holes in the tape. As shown, a tape 10 having a series of reference combinations spaced at steps along its length is fed from reel 18 over sprocket wheels 9, 11, past tensioning roller 19 to take-up reel 20, pins 12 on wheels 9, 11 engaging holes in the tape. A full rotation of knob 14 rotates the Geneva wheel 25 by a quarter revolution by means of wheel 33 and gear 34 having a pin 26 engaging slots 27 of the Geneva wheel, which is keyed to the same shaft 16 as sprocket wheel 11. Wheel 11 and reel 20 are driven thereby in synchronism via pulleys 22, 23 joined by coil spring 24. Each rotational increment advances the tape by one step to the next reference combination. During advancement, the tape is under substantially constant tension.
