Abstract

The unit maintains a constant tension in esp. a length of paper in a rotary printing machine. The length engages around a brake roller, which drives an induction brake. A length monitoring device controls the excitation of the brake. Both the core (35) and the armature (19) of the induction brake (17) can rotate and are driven opposite to each other. One of the two elements is driven at increased/reduced speed via a reduction gear (11, 13, 15). One of the elements is driven by an internally toothed belt (13). The second element is driven by the external side of a toothed belt, which passes over a tension roller (25), and a drive wheel (31) on the brake roller shaft (9).
