Abstract

1482625 Temperature controlled aeration process BOC INTERNATIONAL Ltd 15 Aug 1974 [15 Aug 1973] 39580/73 Heading C1C Aqueous material having a BOD, may be treated by a process which includes the steps of passing the material (e.g. sewage) into a treatment vessel, aerating or oxygenating, and controlling the temperature of the aqueous material in the vessel so as to keep it at or close to a chosen temperature, wherein incoming aqueous material is heat exchanged with a stream of aqueous material from the treatment tank. Temperatures of 25‹ to 50‹ C. may be used, and heat exchangers may provide additional heating or cooling. The activated sludge process may thus be controlled in this way. The use of substantially pure oxygen is preferred. Apparatus is also described and claimed.
