Abstract
Description
PROCEDE ET INSTALLATION DE TRAITEMENT D'UN EFFLUENT BRUT, EN PARTICULIER D'EAUX RESIDUAIRES. METHOD AND PLANT FOR TREATING RAW EFFLUENT, ESPECIALLY WASTEWATER.
The invention relates to a method for treating a raw effluent, in particular urban wastewater (ERU), industrial wastewater (ERI), or drinking water (EP), according to which the effluent The crude is subjected to at least one of two stages of treatment with activated sludge and / or membrane filtration. One of the aims of the invention is, above all, to reduce the sizing of biological basins and / or membrane installations, for the same flow of treated raw effluent, or to increase the treated flow rate for the same sizing of the installations. The invention exploits the fact that the steps of treatment with activated sludge and / or membrane filtration have an efficiency that depends on the temperature of the liquid subjected to the treatment.
According to the invention, the treatment method defined above is characterized in that a transfer of heat is ensured between the treated effluent and the raw effluent so that the temperature of the raw effluent, after heat transfer, better suited to the treatment to be performed. When the raw effluent is at a temperature below the desired temperature for activated sludge treatment and / or membrane filtration, heat is extracted from the treated effluent and this heat is used to heat the raw effluent before it is not subject to treatment. When the raw effluent is at a temperature above the desired temperature for activated sludge treatment and / or membrane filtration, heat is extracted from the raw effluent to cool it before it is subjected to treatment, and this heat is transferred to the treated effluent. The desired temperature for activated sludge wastewater treatment is generally from about 14 ° C to 30 ° C. The desired temperature for membrane filtration of the water may be above 20 ° C and should generally remain below 40 ° C. Preferably, heat is extracted from the treated effluent, constituting the cold source, with the aid of a heat pump, and a heat exchange is carried out between the liquid of a closed loop, heated by the pump. heat, and the raw effluent upstream of the treatment.
Advantageously, a reversible heat pump is used which makes it possible, when necessary, to extract heat from the raw effluent, which then constitutes the cold source, and to transfer it to the treated effluent which then constitutes the source. hot.
The invention also relates to an installation for treating a raw effluent, in particular urban waste water (ERU), industrial wastewater (ERI), or drinking water (EP), comprising at least one one of two equipment constituted by an activated sludge treatment unit and / or a membrane filtration unit, and characterized in that it comprises a means for transferring heat between the treated effluent and the raw effluent so that the temperature of the raw effluent is better adapted to the treatment to be performed. Preferably, the heat transfer means comprises a heat pump. The heat pump can be reversible. A heat exchanger is provided upstream of the treatment unit or units, between the raw effluent and the liquid of a closed loop, heated by the heat pump. The installation advantageously comprises a control unit for adjusting the heat pump as a function of the temperature of the raw effluent at the inlet of the treatment unit. The invention consists, apart from the arrangements described above, of a certain number of other arrangements which will be more explicitly discussed below with reference to exemplary embodiments described with reference to the appended drawings, but which do not are in no way limiting. In these drawings: 1 is a diagram of a processing installation according to the invention. Fig. 2 is a diagram of a variant of the installation according to the invention. Fig. 3 is a diagram illustrating the influence of the temperature on the abscissa on the nitrification rate on the ordinate and expressed in mg NNH4 / g MV / h (milligrams of ammonia nitrogen removed per gram of volatile material, and per hour), and FIG. 4 is a diagram illustrating the variations of the net flux through a membrane, plotted on the ordinate, as a function of the temperature on the abscissa. Referring to Fig. 1 of the drawings, one can see an urban wastewater treatment plant (ERU), or industrial wastewater (ERI) comprising a basin 1 of activated sludge treatment BA followed by a unit 2 with membranes for a membrane filtration. The raw effluent to be treated arrives via a pipe 3 in a pretreatment unit 4 comprising in particular a screening unit, and / or desanding and / or degreasing. The raw effluent, pretreated, is fed to the pool of activated sludge 1 by a pipe 5. The effluent exiting the basin 1 is directed, via a pipe 6, to the membrane unit 2. The filtrate, constituting the treated effluent, leaves the unit 2 by at least one pipe 7. The installation comprises a heat pump 8 comprising a liquid / liquid heat exchanger whose input is connected to a pipe 9 branched bypass on the pipe 7 output of the membrane unit. It is recalled that a heat pump is a device that extracts heat from a so-called cold source and returns it to a so-called hot source. The effective temperature of the sources does not intervene in this definition.
Generally the temperature of the hot source is higher than that of the cold source, but the opposite is possible, especially during an inverted operation of a reversible heat pump. A pump 10 is mounted on the pipe 9 for the circulation of the fluid taken from the pipe 7. A return line 11 brings the fluid withdrawn through the pipe 9 into the outlet pipe 7, after this fluid has passed through the pump. heat 8 with heat transfer. A control valve can be installed on the pipe 7, between the connections of the pipes 9 and 11. Depending on the case, the exchanger of the heat pump 8 warms or cools the fluid of a loop E, usually water , which supplies in closed circuit a ts second exchanger 12 placed on the raw effluent. The loop E comprises, in the exchanger 12, a circuit whose input 12a is connected by a pipe 13 to an output of the heat pump 8, and whose output 12b is connected by a pipe 14 to an inlet of the heat pump 8. The pipe 13 may be equipped with a circulation pump 15. Only heat transfer occurs between the fluid of the loop E 20 and the raw effluent which enters through an inlet 12c, in another circuit separated from the exchanger 12, and which is discharged through the outlet 12d connected to the supply line 5 of the basin 1. A control unit 16 is provided for the adjustment of the heat pump 8 as a function of the temperature of the raw effluent at the inlet of the unit 1, this temperature being sensed by a probe mounted on the pipe 5 and connected by an electric cable 17 to the control unit 16. An output of the unit 16 is connected by an electric cable 18 to a control input of the control of the pom The adjustment of this heat pump is carried out so that the temperature of the raw effluent at the inlet of the unit 1 corresponds to a predetermined desired value. The unit 16 is also provided to control the flow rates of the pumps 10 and 15 by appropriate links. The diagram of FIG. 3 illustrates the influence of the temperature on the nitrification rate in the activated sludge basin 1. The temperature is plotted on the abscissa, while on the ordinate are the mg N-NH4 / g MV / h (35 N milligrams). -NH4 removed per gram of volatile matter MV, per hour). Two curves are plotted: a dashed upper curve, corresponding to a treatment with activated sludge with primary treatment, in order to eliminate a part of the particles in suspension and another inferior in solid line corresponding to a treatment by activated sludge without primary treatment. It appears that the rate of nitrification increases as the temperature increases from about 7 ° C to 30 ° C. An increase in temperature of the raw effluent at the entrance to the basin 1 will thus increase the kinetics of biological reactions, resulting in a reduction in the design of structures, for a raw effluent flow rate to be treated. The kinetics of denitrification (endogenous and exogenous) are functions of temperature and mass loading. Also, the temperature has a less important influence on denitrification than in the context of nitrification. Fig. 4 is a diagram illustrating the variation of the maximum net flux, through a membrane, plotted on the ordinate and expressed in L.h.'.m-2 (liter per hour, per square meter of membrane) as a function of the temperature on the abscissa. The upper curve in dotted line corresponds to a peak over one hour. The median curve in solid line corresponds to a daily peak and the lower curve in dashes corresponds to an annual average. The flux through the membrane increases with temperature over the range of 5 ° C to 30 ° C. The flow reaches a maximum for a temperature above 30 ° C not shown in the diagram. The temperature rise of the effluent makes it possible to increase the flow and thus to reduce the membrane surface and associated equipment for a given flow rate. According to the invention, when the raw effluent arriving via line 5 is at a temperature below the desired temperature, in particular below 12 ° C., for treatment with activated sludge 1 and / or by membrane filtration 2, the pump The heat exchanger 8 operates to extract heat from the treated effluent, to transfer it to the raw effluent and to raise its temperature by about 5 ° C. For this purpose, all or part of the treated effluent exiting the unit 2 is sent to the exchanger of the heat pump which heats the liquid of the closed loop E. The treated effluent then constitutes the cold source while that the raw effluent constitutes the hot source. Heat is transferred from the cold source to the hot source. The pump 10 is provided when the outlet pressure of the unit 2 is insufficient to ensure the flow to the heat pump 8. The loop E is a heating loop in the case considered and allows to heat the raw effluent in the exchanger 12. The functionality of the installation is based on the establishment of a temperature setpoint at the outlet 12d of the exchanger 12, in the pipe 5, 35 setpoint which drives by the unit 16 the operation of the heat pump 8 and the pump 15 of the heating loop. When the temperature of the raw effluent is too high, for example in summer, the operation of the heat pump 8 is reversed and the raw effluent 5 becomes the cold source, while the treated effluent leaving the pipe 7 , becomes the hot spring. The heat is withdrawn from the raw effluent 5, the temperature of which is lowered, and this heat is then transferred to the treated effluent leaving via line 7.
In this case also, the operation of the heat pump is controlled so that a temperature set point is maintained at the outlet 12b of the exchanger 12, in the pipe 5. As a non-limiting numerical example, for a temperature input of the raw effluent Entering the pipe 3 from 10 ° C to 15 ° C, the temperature of ~ o set at the output 12d in the pipe 5 can be chosen equal to the input + ATmax, with L \ Tmax = 5 ° C. The temperature variation at the treated effluent circulating in the lines 9 and 11 is also ATmax = 5 ° C. The temperature of the liquid in the loop E at the outlet of the heat pump 8, is about 45 to 50 ° C or more, depending on the characteristics of the heat pump. In the case of treated water leaving the pipe 7, which would not be ultrafiltered, it is preferable to install an intermediate heat exchanger before the heat pump 8 or a filtration system, in order to avoid passing through the exchanger of the heat pump by a water that is not ultrafiltered, and thus avoid clogging of the heat pump. The operation of the plant with a suitable set point temperature for the raw effluent in the inlet pipe makes it possible: to increase the kinetics of the biological reactions, thus reducing the dimensions of the structures and equipment; to reduce the membrane surface and that of related equipment; - to reduce the temperature differences of the raw effluent input, and thus optimize operating costs; - in the event of a degraded situation, to temporarily increase the permissible flow by a momentary rise in temperature of the incoming effluent during the period of deterioration of the situation; 30 - increase the capacity of an existing facility and therefore defer the investments of a community. In the case of a raw incoming effluent whose temperature is high, it can be cooled before a membrane treatment to make it compatible with the maximum permissible temperature of the membranes. Fig. 2 shows an alternative embodiment of the treatment plant in the case in particular where it is expected cooling of the incoming raw effluent. Identical elements or playing a role similar to elements described in connection with FIG. 1 are designated by the same reference numerals without their description being repeated. According to the variant of FIG. 2, a heater type exchanger 19 is installed on the pipe 14 to allow to increase, if necessary, the cooling of the liquid, flowing in this pipe 14, with atmospheric air.
The foregoing description relates to a treatment of urban or industrial wastewater. The invention also applies to a drinking water treatment that does not involve an activated sludge treatment pond 1, the raw effluent being directly treated with membranes giving the drinking water output. The solution of the invention is particularly suitable for membrane treatment, including by reverse osmosis: the heat pump can be fed directly with ultrafiltered water, without the need for an intermediate exchanger; in the case of membrane treatments of urban wastewater or industrial waste water, a fine, advantageously 0.8 mm, round mesh screen is already available which protects the exchanger 12 installed on the raw effluent after pretreatment. The solution of the invention provides a significant decrease in investments in civil engineering, membranes and associated equipment.
The solution of the invention is particularly relevant for the treatment of urban wastewater at a high unit cost of civil engineering. The solution of the invention makes it possible to increase the nominal capacity of an existing installation. This industrial application responds to: - the constraints of the stations subjected to variations in loads, the rise in temperature increasing the permissible flow of the membranes, - the constraints of the stations of cold countries and therefore mountain resorts.
