Abstract

1481195 Abrasive wheels NORTON CO 10 Oct 1974 [16 Oct 1973] 44013/74 Heading C4V [Also in Divison B3] A resin bonded abrasive grinding wheel comprises a primary abrading portion extending along one side of the wheel to a peripheral grinding face comprising resin-bonded primary particles of co-fused alumina-zirconia containing 10-60% by weight of zirconia and a secondary abrading portion bonded to the primary abrading portion and extending to the peripheral grinding face and comprising resin bonded secondary abrasive particles different from and of less durability than the aluminazirconia. The primary abrading portion may also comprise one or more of garnet, aluminium oxide, silicon carbide, emery, flint, silica and quartz and these materials may constitute the secondary abrasive. The alumina-zirconia particles may be of 16-60 grit size and the secondary abrasive particles of no larger than 16 grit size. A reinforcing material, such as a disc of open mesh fibre glass cloth may be bonded to the outside of the secondary abrading portion of the wheel.
