Abstract

1480658 Curing aminoplast resins on textiles AMERICAN CYANAMID CO 7 Feb 1975 [22 Feb 1974] 5429/75 Heading D1P [Also in Division C3] Curing of a water soluble thermosetting amino plast resin on a textile material is effected by heating in the presence of a catalytic amount of a mixture of aluminium sulphate and magnesium sulphate. The resin and catalyst may be applied to the material as a single aqueous composition which may further contain a water repellent fibre reactive N- methylol compound containing a long chain alkyl or alkoxyl (6-18C) group e.g. N- methylol stearamide and an oil repellent fluorocarbon polymer. The aminopiast resin is preferably 1, 3-bis (hydroxy methyl)-4, 5-dihydroxy-2-imidazolidinone. Other resins include urea-formaldehyde, methylolmelamines and etherified derivatives thereof. Curing may be effected at between 300‹ and 400‹F, preferably between 325‹ and 350‹F and may be simultaneous with or subsequent todrying. The textile material may be knitted, woven, or felted fabric containing at least 20% of cellulose fibres e.g. cotton, viscose rayon, jute, ramie or hemp. popularly blended with wool. polyester, acrylic or nylon fibres.
