Abstract

148,051. McDonald, A. E. Aug. 6, 1919. Levers, locking. - The gear shift lever of a motor vehicle is locked by means of a casing sliding on the lever and adapted to embrace the member in which the lever is pivoted. The casing is fitted with a lock - controlled catch which engages a fixed collar on the lever to hold the casing in its operative position. The lever 6 is pivoted in the fixed member 5 and the casing 13, formed in two parts to facilitate assembly, is provided with a depending portion 18 adapted to fit the member 5. The casing is provided with a barrel lock 20 operating a pivoted catch 23 which engages a fixed collar 7 in the lever 6. A bushing 26 is provided in the casing and is fitted with internal, radial springs engaging the lever to prevent rattling. The casing is normally held in its in-operative position by a spring 32.
