Abstract
1480337 Methanol gasification catalyst DAVY POWERGAS Ltd 23 July 1974 [24 July 1973 (2)] 35130/73 and 35132/73 Heading B1E [Also in Division C5] A methanol gasification catalyst composition is free from Gp VIII metals in the metallic state and consists of (neglecting impurities) (a) a major amount (i.e. at least 50% on a weight basis) of iron oxide, (b) a minor amount of chromium oxide, and (c) a minor amount of at least one dehydration catalyst component which is phosphate ions chemically combined with components (a) and/or (b) or tungstate ions chemically combined with components (a) and/or (b). The catalyst may comprise 8-18% wt of a chromium oxide and 1 to 9% wt of phosphate ions. The catalyst may be used in a plurality of gasification stages or it may be used in the first stage of a multistage methanation process, the subsequent catalyst(s) comprising Group VIII metals, e.g. nickel.
