Abstract

1480335 Spray producers W A SMITH 15 July 1974 [17 July 1973] 33873/73 Heading B2F A spraying tool 12 for spraying a mixture of an aggregate and liquid adhesive material onto a surface 10, comprises a housing 14 having a discharge opening 15 at one end, an aggregate inlet 76 opening into the housing adapted to be connected to a container 60 for aggregate, a liquid adhesive inlet 94 disposed between opening 15 and inlet 76 and adapted to be connected to a liquid adhesive container 88, a mechanical conveyor 36 disposed within the housing and operative to advance aggregate and liquid adhesive from their inlets to the discharge opening and a discharge nozzle 18 at said opening 15 to discharge mixed liquid adhesive and aggregate from the tool through the discharge nozzle 18 by gas jets issuing from nozzle apertures 24 towards surface 10. The screw conveyor 36 is rotatably mounted in a cylindrical mixing chamber 26 of housing 14 and is driven by a gas, e.g. compressed air, operated motor 32. A cylindrical metal jacket 16 houses the nozzle 18 and an annular gas chamber 20 with which communicate compressed air supply pipe 22 and nozzle apertures 24 disposed in annular formation, Fig. 2 (not shown). A gas and dust exhaust opening 78 is positioned opposite inlet 76 and is covered by a fine mesh grill 80 and communicates with a passage 82, between housing 14 and a hinged cover 83, directed forwardly towards opening 15 so that gas and aggregate dust is discharged in the same general direction as the liquid adhesive and aggregate. The liquid adhesive is supplied to tool 12 via pipe 90 and opening 94 by compressed air supplied to the container's interior through pipe 89. Aggregate container 60 communicates with a suction unit 59 driven by motor 32 and aggregate is entrained in the air stream and passes via tubes 67, 72, 74 to inlet 76. The suction unit is adjustable to vary the intensity of suction and rate of supply of aggregate to tool 12. Control valves control the rate of supply of liquid adhesive. valves 91, 92 and gas valves 52, 54 to tool 12, and valve 44 controls the speed of operation of the mechanical conveyor 36. To enhance mixing the chamber 26 may include an enlarged portion 93.
