Abstract

1480105 Automatic control WELTRONIC CO 7 June 1974 [8 June 1973 (5)] 25430/74 Heading G3N A welding system, for controlling cyclic welding, employs a general purpose computer which is programmed to generate timing signals for controlling the weld cycles of a plurality of welding heads, weld-power control circuitry remote from the computer and a data terminal remote from the computer as associated with some of the heads for reading out stored welding data and changing the timings of weld cycles of the associated heads. As shown, a welding system controls a plurality of welding heads in a module 106 provided with a power supply circuit 192 and a heat control circuit 194, each head being controlled by an SCR 196. The system comprises a unit 100, located in a central maintenance area, having interchangeable master and back-up computers 130, 132. Peripherals comprise an automation satellite 102 on the shop-floor, a power satellite 104, sensing phase load and balancing it in response to computer outputs, a diagnostic terminal 110 and a terminal 112 for exchange of welding data with the computer. Terminal units 176, 178, 180, 182, 184 may be provided.
