1480079 Presses CINCINNATI MILACRON Inc 5 Nov 1975 [19 Dec 1974] 55066/74 Heading B5F The position of a slide 18 in a crank driven press having means 21 for adjusting the shutheight is indicated by means 37, Fig. 2, associated with a sensor 30 which co-operates with the slide or an element 27 thereon and with the press body or an element 29 thereon. As shown, the indicator 37 is a dial on a shaft 36 in the slide. A pinion 27 on the shaft engages a rack 30 which in use of the indicator bears on an abutment on the press body. The rack, which has means for taking up back lash, may be withdrawn for operation of the press without rotation of the dial 37, by means of a pneumatic jack (32), Fig. 4 (not shown). This is connected to a further rack (33) connected through pinions (34, 35) to the pinion 27 for raising rack 30. The press work-shaft 13 is driven, through a flywheel 15 and clutch 16, by a motor 17. An eccentric sleeve 22 is locked by a toothed ring 23 after adjustment on the crank-shaft eccentric. Shut-height is adjusted by turning a screwthreaded ball-pin 21 in the connecting rod 20. An interlock may prevent simultaneous engagement of the clutch 16 and operation of the jack (32) for lowering the rack 30. Alternatively, the indicator may operate continuously and the retraction device (32, 34, 35) omitted. The indicator may be mounted on the bed and the rack 30 engage the slide 18. Alternatively, instead of a rack an electrical transducer may sense the relative positions of the parts.
